Equipment Cleanup

Hi, it’s been a while since I was active here. Last June, I went away for two weeks with family, when I got back, my ATO had broken, and everything was dead. I lost all faith in the hobby and I am only now getting around to cleaning up the wreck of the tank. How would I go about cleaning up the equipment, and can it be used in my freshwater tanks? On a similar note can I use my saltwater storage container for freshwater plant cultures? Thanks in advance!

I like to clean equipment with hot water and citric acid. Does a great job. If its heavy algae then I'll use bleach and water.
