is that cup shown on the skimmer the XL one? reason I ask is I have the Sca-302 and want the larger cup. They are super nice skimmers and do a great job for the $.

I believe it is the XL cup because it has the drain tube. I think the smaller cup does not have the drain tube.

Call SC aquariums and see if they will send you one. I have called them a couple times and have received great service.

What length are your Reef Breeders fixtures? Are they programmable? Are you willing to ship?
Thanks.

would you be willing to meet anywhere? im a good bit south of you and interested in the corals
Sorry, I'm not interested in driving that long (meeting you half way is a 3hr round trip). I prefer local pick up for the live stuff.

"Each fixture measures 16″ long x 8.5″ wide, x 2.5″ tall" ~ from Reef Breeders site
They are not programmable, but they do have dimming knobs.

I will ship at your expense and after Pay Pal payment is received.
* I have original factory boxes that they were shipped to me in(lights individually boxed then placed in a single box.)

Hi Shovelrider,

I have a question about BRS RO unit. How easy is it to take off the canister? My RODI unit is really difficult to get its canisters removed. I have to ask my hubby to get them off, and he even struggle a bit occasionally - not to the point that four letter words would not fix...but difficult. I thought the big old canister wrench looked twisted and was going to break last time. I do apply the silicone stuff that comes with O-ring every time, but it's still tough. I am looking for a different unit from which even "I", or another little old lady, can undo the canisters.

This is the only RODI unit I have ever owned so I cannot say if it is any better or worse than others. What I can say is that it is a little difficult to get off if you tighten the canister too much. My canister wrench makes it easier to take them off and they have never been so tight that the wrench would bend. Also, if the unit is mounted to the wall, it will be easier to open because you can apply the full torque through the wrench. I can also say that this unit it is well made and all parts are pretty stout. You are welcome to come check it out if you like.

Shovelrider, not to try to hijack your thread but:

Tomoko - try putting a drop of olive oil on the threaded part of the canister and smear it all around when you put it on.

Thanks, Harry. I will try the olive oil trick. I ask Reilly not to torque up the canisters when he put them back on. When I put them back, he will come and tighten them all since I have let one leak one time. Do you all hand tighten them without the wrench when you put the system back together?

I give mine a slight tug with the wrench. Really, as long as the o-ring is firmly seated is enough.

Update and Price Drop...

Reef Breeders lights $100 each (I have 2)
BRS RO/DI $130
Live rock $100
---------------------------------------------

Corals $150
Natural Wave $25 (multi-cycle pump timer)
---------------------------------------------

sold:
skimmer
ATO
Phosban reactor
10g tanks

i'm very interested in the coral but the pump for my skimmer died a couple weeks ago, and it took 10 days to get a replacement. i am waiting on my system to recover. once it does i'd love to get the coral if you still have it. i can probably pay for it Friday afternoon if you don't mind housing them for a week or so.

That probably wouldn't be a problem, but my system is running without a skimmer right now as I have recently sold it. Everything in my tank is really hardy and has withstood salinity swings and temp drop over the years.
Just let me know what you want to do.

How long has it been since you replaced the filters and membrane in the rodi?

I don't want to ship this many corals, local pickup only.

I have never replaced the membrane due to having a flush kit and relatively clean water coming in. The filters were changed about 6months ago. The DI resin is about due. I just started getting 1ppm but with no pressure change.
