Hi everyone, feels like a long time since I have posted in here, after a devastating loss of 2 clowns to Brookynella I decided to take a break, I still have my old tank and am looking to restart it and have 2 clowns and an anemone. Since it has been along time, I just want to double check on what things I should be testing for, also the clownfish I bought were cheap from a bad LFS, so do you think that could be a cause of them dying, or was I just unlucky ?

Well, welcome back to the grind! I gotta ask, how did you store your tank when you broke it down? A couple of years can have detrimental effects on the seams. Also, are you going to start with new live rock or use what you already have? Dead rock has a lot of waste built up in it. And it becomes a Phosphate Warehouse. I'm doing the same as you are, but am replacing the tank. My rock is going to be pressure washed, dried, bleached, rinsed, dried again then cycled in a Brute for a few months.

The tank has really been sat in the same place for a year, I will end up buying new rock but not sure whether I want live rock, as I want a really cool scape. Do you think the tank needs to be replaced ? It’s only a small WB 20

It only needs replacement if the seams have been compromised. Take a flashlight and inspect the sealing, if looks good, I’d use that.

Lots of sick or untreated clowns out there…

I did the same thing. Left in place, but for me it was 12 years. Mine was a 90, so it's a no-brainer for my situation. In your case, if the tank leaks, it won't be difficult to breakdown and replace out. With only 2 years down, I'd try it, but just be prepared to replace if the need arises. Push on the seams gently and see if they're hard and brittle. In that case I'd replace.
