Eradicating Bryopsis

I noticed I had bryopsis growing on one of my frags. Is there anything I can try before using fluconazole?

I’ve physically removed the frag from the tank, and manually removed what I could. I’ve noticed it’s start to slowly grow back around the rim of the frag in a matter of a couple days.

Your best bet is to get something that eats it. My lawnmower liked to eat mine. My yellow tang ate all my bubble algae . You get the drift..

As in lawnmower blenny which is hit or miss.
Have gotten rid of bryopsis in a few tanks with Kent magnesium supplement. Rise it up to 1500-1600 and keep it there til it goes away. A few weeks and gone. Never observed any ill effects to tank otherwise

Any effects to other algae? Like coralline? Does it also get rid of bubble and hair along with Bryopsis?

Only bryopsis

If it’s limited, just throw the plug out. If it’s on a rock I would salvage what is on it an bleach the rock. I could not keep it under control without fluconazole. Bryopsis spreads fast and is quite unresponsive to our usual responses.

Heard Lettuce sea slugs can take care of it. They specialize in Bryopsis

If you have a big tank then the emerald crab and a yellow tang will get rid of the bubble algae.

Only a 30 gal cube. Bad experience with emeralds nipping at corals

I was able to deploy my snails like paratroopers on my “outbreak” spots and it actually worked!

I was debating on throwing the frag out... I thought it was dead, pressed on it real hard and that’s why there’s that little dead spot on it. But I kept redirecting my snails to the plug and they cleaned it up!

I just threw out a frag plug but unfortunately it’s now growing in other places... gonna try lettuce sea slugs. Heard those are great for Bryopsis!

Good luck! Maybe a couple days no lights when you get the sea slug? I’ve never battle a full blown bryopsis outbreak, but a couple days no lights and cleaning has helped me with dinos in the past.

Ok, sounds great. Not too much Bryopsis yet, but it’s there, and it’s GROWING. So trying to get ahead of the outbreak lol

Getting to the roots is key to eradication. Pull as much as you can by hand and as i did, reduced white light intensity for a few days and dosed Fluconasal (flux) which put them away for good (been 7 months)

Im not 100% sure it’s bryopsis. If I took a picture do you think you could help ID?

best photos I could get, snail beat me to it. It used to have that fern like appearance but it doesn’t look like that today. I don’t see it growing anywhere else in the tank except that plug
