I recently acquired a used 65 gallon aquarium with a sump filtration system. I got a great deal on the system because it has ich, which I've verified is unfortunately true. My local fish store says I have two options before I'll be able to add fish:
1) treat the system for ich and after 20 days it will be safe BUT I will forfeit the option of ever adding any corals, invertebrates etc.
2) let the tank run for 3 months without fish, the ich will die off and it will be business as usual.

I definitely want to add anemone, shrimp, and hermits in the future so I am leaning toward option 2. Is waiting three months with no fish my only viable option at this point? I really appreciate advice I'm able to get from experienced aquarists on this.

Thanks in advanced.

Option 2 for sure, but you don't have to go three months. Somewhere in the 70-76 days would get you to 100% certain.
You are waiting for all the cysts to hatch and starve. The longest that has ever been observed to take is 72 days in a lab at cold temp.
