Eradicating zoas

Any ideas on how to kill, get rid of the zoas on this rock. Rock does not come out. Would just scraping them off with a chisel or blade be safe, anything to worry about if i do it in the tank?

Not really safe to do in the tank as far as scrape them off IMO. It can release paly toxin in the tank. I would try to chip away large pieces of the rock and replace with another rock over that area if the current rock can not be removed. DO NOT attempt to kill them with hot water method - that will release paly toxin in vapor form into the air. That’s my $.02.

After you chunk them off...sell them. Looks like nice colony of fire and ice maybe?

ya there nice but I've been over zoas for a long time and they are taking up prime real estate. The rock is big and goes back a ways no way to pull it or even try and chisel chunks off. If they release toxin assuming these contain it will it hurt all the corals in the tank or just pose a risk to me? Determined to find a way.

I’m not an expert on paly toxin, but it will hurt you for sure if your exposed by inhale or open cuts. And I think your right, I don’t believe all zoas contain paly toxin. Wether these do or not I don’t know. I always associate paly toxin with the larger button Palys.

I wonder if there is a way to cover the zoas and starve them out - make them melt.

It’s funny because I’m always trying to save my zoas from melting and well...your wishing they would lol
