Erin O's 75G Build

I know that I should wait until I have algae growing before I add any CUC. How long does that take, on average? Since there will be live rock, should I add something (a hermit or a snail) right away?
when I swapped to the 75 I had my snails and hermits without any algae. I dropped in crab cuisine every few days for them to feast on. As you know from us talking, my tank doesn't have any hair algae so I still drop a little crab cuisine every now and then, but my snails usually keep my glass clean from the green algae that comes up on the glass.

Excellent, thanks!

Should I leave my lights on to help the algae going? Or would that be a bad idea?
with the live rock i would slowly work from 4 hrs a day to 8-9 hrs total over two weeks

Glad to see that you are getting a lot of support from this community! :D I actually have a 29g reef for a year now and now I’m transferring everything to my new 75g setup!

I love it! Those colors are amazing!

The hang on refugium is not a day 1 need for sure. A great thing to add down the road if you see a need. I would consider running a refugium only for that size and losing the canister one day If it were me. Keep it simple now though.

I had my lights on the whole time. Algae isn't bad. Part of it. Wait it out.
I am going to do the Pico that way and try it. It will be live rock anyway except one shelf.

SAND!!! I have SAND!!! And a heater! And a refractometer! In my house! It's getting REAL, you guys! Lol
In my experience, you should calibrate that refractometer every time you use it. With mine I found calibrating with RO/DI water worked just as well as using a homemade calibration solution.

Agree. I calibrate every time. What no pics of the goodies. You know what @Katrina71 says pics or it never happened
