Eshopps 300gph overflow

This thing stinks. Does anyone know oh to make this overflow work correctly? I get large air pockets in they tube within 10min of starting the syphon. So far I have not lost total syphon, but I am concerned I will when I am at work mad my tank will end up empty.

Any ideas how to keep the u tube air bubble free?

Fill the u tube full of water and put plastic on both ends with a rubber band so water dosnt escape when you turn over then take off front part the. The back and wallah

I use a piece of airline tubing to fill the u tube. I stays full for about 10 min, then it slowly developers a big air pocket at the top.
