i recently purchased this skimmer for my 60 cube after reading some really good reviews about it. Got it set up and made sure it was between 7-9 inches in water. Had to end up building a makeshift stand out of egg crate as I use a trigger cube sump and the space for the skimmer is about 10- 11 inches of water. So with the stand the water level is just at about 8 inches from the bottom of the skimmer.

anytime I have ever set up a new tank I don't have any issues pulling out skimmate from the get go. So far I have had this tank setup for a month or so and skimmer set up for about 2 weeks and it isn't pulling anything. I have the air open all the way on the silencer and the water level up to the beginning of the neck of the collection cup.

Any thoughts? Maybe just break in time?? I have a little livestock in there and I am feeding so a bit surprised it isn't pulling anything . I have include a picture of it. The neck inside the skimmer is getting kind of gunked up but nothing in the cup. Wondering if anyone else using these skimmers have any thoughts as to tweaking it.

Thanks in advance!

Probably just not enough load yet. Is it foaming or just bubbling away? Overall it is a very solid skimmer.

Mostly bubbling but from time to time I do see some foam forming at the top of the cup where it meets the lid.

Wondering if I should keep the air open all the way or close it some. Thinking more air the better. Also wondering if I take the stand out what would happen, I assume the water level would be too high then to even be efficient.
My best bet is probably to just let it sit and be patient....lol

Here is a picture of the top portion. So you can see it is collecting some gunk in the tube and a little foam around the edge just nothing spilling over

if it is foaming, it is skimming, which is also evident by the brown skimmate on the top of the neck inside the cup. You can raise the water level a little bit inside the skimmer to make it a bit more wet, but I think you simply need more load.

Oh, and leave the air wide open.
