Eshopps Ecplipse S - leak, leaks, leaks, help!

Yup that's what I had to do with mine. I drilled from the inside out, and put the template almost all the way up to the underside of the rim. Maybe leave 1/8'' or less between the rim and the template. I did that and my water level sits just above the bottom of the rim

Yep, I drilled both. the return and the overflow from inside.

OK, so this was some good ******* advice. Cranked down on the drain bulkheads a bit with a tool and the leaks there seemed to have corrected. I've read just hand tighten many times.

I'll try Crab's gasket configuration later today followed with "Ya **** that hand tight ****", give it a crank, and hopefully I can continue this journey...until the next issue, LOL

Hand tighten is right... if you're a big, hairy, Popeye looking dude. I think the manufactures say that to prevent getting a flood of stripped plastic threads back. A good pair of slip joint pliers goes a long way in sealing up a bulkhead. Clean surfaces, good gaskets, and just past most human's idea of 'hand tight' does it nearly every time.

Is it leaking from the gasket or from male/female threads? You can use a sealer to seal the threads there is no problem doing that. Teflon tape is not a sealer, once it compresses you does not uncompressed to help seal.

Okay, thank you Crab Mcjones and everyone else. A gasket on each side of the glass worked perfectly, no leak. For anyone installing the Eclipse, DO NOT follow Eshopps youtube installation video.

Install this way: Interior weir box>gasket on interior glass>glass>gasket on exterior glass>outer drain box> nut, no gasket.

If you have no gasket behind the interior weir box, water can seep in behind the weir box, through the drilled hole, down the threads and into the rear drain box. Also, a gasket under the large nut seems to serve no purpose except to make it more difficult to tighten the large nut in the drain box.

The only aesthetic drawback is that the weir box does not sit flush against the back interior glass, but who cares.

It's difficult to understand why Eshopps instructions seem to be poorly thought out, although I must say, their customer service response time is excellent, they called me back yesterday in under 5 minutes trying to help.

Again , I have the version small of the Eclipse. To tune these with gate valve, do you let a slight bit of water flow just over the top of secondary drain with the red pvc pipe or should the water level not flow into that drain at all, but near the top of the secondary drain?

I just topped off my new 120g and powered it up for the first time. Guess where I found the only leak?

Guess that second gasket should be between the glass and the external box, not inside it, making the nuts giant PITAs to screw into place.

Why, oh, why didn't I read this thread *before* I got to this point?

Oh man… thank god for this thread. Had leaks following the configuration in the instructions and doing it this way solved the problem. Thank you!
