About to put some holes in a perfectly good glass square... Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where to put a Medium Eshopps overflow on a 36x20x18 rimless aquarium.

I'm really most concerned about how high to put it in the tank.

Obviously flush with the rim would not be ideal due to my desire to use a lid, but would anyone say that putting the top of the overflow box at ~1/4" below the edge would be a bad idea?

To be safe, the edge of the hole you drill should be at least one hole diameter from the edge of the glass.

It looks like the Eclipse M uses 1 60mm hole. So the top edge of the hole should be at least 60mm (2 1/4"+) from the top edge.

Awesome thanks. I was concerned that it would look odd, found an image of one installed on an IM40, made me feel better. I'd love to center it but I think it's best that I just keep the overflow on one side and the return on the other.

a 3' tank doesn't need dual returns IMO.

Thank you for the assistance!

But you are correct to be concerned about the height - too high and your water level will be trouble. Does the template give you an idea of what the water level will be?

Since I don't have my tank in front of me, I hadn't thought of looking for the template! It was placed between the boxes so it wasn't an obvious. Though they don't really mention what the 1 and 1.5 are for on it. Maybe water level based on what size plumbing used?

Here you go.

side note to anyone reading this in the future, the edges of the template can be sharp. Cut my thumb decently while messing with it! ;Dead

That must be the water level indication but I would hope the instructions say something? On BRS's site in the description I see it says "The guide helps you set the perfect water level for your aquarium and then lets you know exactly where to drill your hole(s)."

If there is, I'm not seeing it. Just checked the box too, nothing on there.

For something so 'final' I'd want to make absolutely certain.
