I have 3 fish trapped in the compartment behind the sock. The Eshopps has a fixed divider and top over the back compartment where the overflow hose comes into the sump. Does anyone have an idea how I can rescue my fish. I am including factory pictures of the sump and actual pictures of my sump. You can barely see my Mocha Clown in the overflow compartment. Please Help!!!

Wow can you not get the sock out and get inside to get them? I am not familiar with these sumps but I did consider buying one

Remove the sock, get a net with a long flexible handle, bend it around in a shape that you can get back there. Scoop them in net or coral them up and over into front compartment. You can also take the bulkhead out and remove the downpipe. Use a rigid tube or something to insert sown the hole to coral them into the net or up and over into the next compartment. Clowns are notorious jumpers so you'll want to cover your overflow, and your top if you haven't.

That is a good point , must be able too get in and change the sock , and thereby catch the fish !

The sock is out, but the compartment where the fish is is behind where the sock goes. It has a fixed divider and the lid where the lines attach does not come off either. The fish is being beat by the water coming into the sump.

The sock pulls out from the top. The fish is in the compartment behind where the sock goes. I have been trying to coax him out with food.

I am researching something to cover my overflow now. I am going to start dismantling the sump now and taking my canopy off. I am missing a Goby and an Aptaisia Filefish as well. I guess I am going swimming in my overflow. LOL!

Can you fill the sump up completely? give it a little while and see if they swim out.

Good luck I think they should have made this accessible stuff like this is bound to happen

I did earlier and try to give him some food so he will come over to the sock side. The system stayed off for about two hours and he only came up 3/4 the way.

Agreed. I love the sump set-up, but I never anticipated this.

I hope you can get all your fish back , and that you can resolve the issue , good luck !! Keep us posted ..

Covering the overflow is easy enough. You'll probably have some semi-rigid/rigid plastic laying around the house. Just cut it to fit the overflow and put a few dabs of superglue to hold in place. If you are running a durso like me, I cut a hole in the plastic above my air hole at the top of the standpipe.

I was able to corral my Mocha with the a small bent fish net. It took almost 1 hour, but he is safe and sound it the aquarium again. I still need to take my canopy off and look for my other fish in the overflow and rig up some way to prevent this from happening in the future. DSCN0137.JPG

Had this sump. After retrieving a yellow prawn goby from the same place your clown was... I no longer have this sump. This wasn't the only problem with it, but it contributed. Impossible to clean areas in a sump bother me.

What sump did you switch to?

Eshopps RS100. Let me keep the same plumbing, since the main bulkhead is in the same place. Lowered the 'uncleanable' sections to just one... yeah, it's the same one you had a problem with, the splashdown area. Still there, just as big a hassle if something gets in there. Lost the undersized refugeum area and the completely inaccessible return pump compartment in favor of a larger 7" sock, larger skimmer area, larger, easier to clean sponge before the return compartment, larger return pump area... which I drilled for an external pump.

As I said, there were several reasons for the change.

I'm still working on it. Need to organize the electrical again, I've got some 1/2" ID silicone tube that's going to replace the stiff poly tube on the BRS reactor, might be mounting a macro algae reactor in the front/right corner. Space is at a premium...
