I've got an Eshopps X-160. I just set it up in the sump of my RS 525XL. I've been playing with the adjustments for well over an hour. I either get way too much foam or all water. I raised it off the bottom of the sump so it's in about 7.5 - 8 inches of water as I've read that is the recommended depth.

If I get it anywhere close to just foam coming out of the top (and even at that it's so much foam it literally lifts the lid off) the vent on the bottom blows out a LOT of bubbles. So much that you can't see anything in the sump.

What am I doing wrong? Help?

Mine took about a week to break in. During break in i kept the silencer all the way open and started with the flow gate at a level where the bubbles were half way up the neck. Each day i adjusted the flow gate a touch. And then i adjusted the silencer. So that i could get skimmate quieter.

Also skimmers take a long time to respond to an adjustment. If your going to tinker with one. I adjust and watch a movie in the same room that way near to watch it overflowing, if my tiny adjustment was too much.

it happens to my Reef Octo at least twice a year i bring it out and run it in vinegar for a day to get the nasties off it....

always takes 5 days before i can set it up and start skimming
