Is it okay to have the sponge on the return underwater? This is probably a ridiculous question but I'm a former seaclone owner so cut me some slack. :) happy holidays

if I remember correctly, that is how it is supposed to be,it helps to remove the micro bubbles but after the skimmer has ran for a while and gets broken in,I think you can remove it,seems like that's what my sister did with hers hope that helps....can it be changed to the intake side to help filter out sand and whatnot ?

The intake side looks almost identical to an Aquaclear freshwater filter. I don't foresee any sand getting up in there. ( it's about 5 inches below the surface. With a new skimmer I'd imagine it's best to wait and let it break it before asking more questions lol. I'm just stoked that I got to run over my seaclone with my Dodge!

LOL running over a seaclown sounds like fun....I think you'll be pleased with the upgrade once it is broken in,if you could make a surface skimmer for the intake it would be a little more efficient but it'll do a great job as is and a surface skimmer would take up valuable space in the tank and be hard to hide
