I have an Eshopp X-160 skimmer.. I have a eshopp r-200 sump. When i turn my return pump off, the water raises.

Water gets into the "slicer" on the side and it makes the skimmer change on how it performs. Anyone have this skimmer or know how to solve this issue? I have to drain the slicer each time and that's not going to last, hints why im posting.

If I raise the skimmer then it wont perform ether because it has to be at the water level I have it.

post a pic of the silencer. can it be taken apart for cleaning?

many of the silencers that can be taken apart are grooved so the clear acrylic tube can seat into the base and top of the silencer. I had the same issue with my aquamaxx ConeS CO1 and put a thin o-ring in the groove and it sealed up the silencer.

I contacted customer support. They have me closing the silencer and running it on a dry skim. It fixed the issue and made it quieter but I ran into another issue.

The side where you lower and raise the water level keeps popping out of place. Tech said to zip tie it I don’t think you should have to . It almost needs a longer track system. Every time I turn my return pump off it pops off the track.

Anyone have this issue?

On top of that issue this unit makes a lot of micro bubbles...

I might be getting a different skimmer.

I really hate this skimmer. Im about to buy a different one.

Thanks. I have the Eschopp r-200 11.5"x13.5" skimmer department. It's stilling in the water up to the first purple ring, as directed by Eschopp. When I turn my return pump off for feeding 2 things happen. The lever that raises and lowers the water inside the skimmer floats up and comes out so when you turn the skimmer back on you have to fix the skimmer each time. Also when you turn the skimmer off when i feed if the silencer is open it will draw water from the pump and fill the silencer. Its just a bad design i believe.

I have one of these (INS80S) made by Reef dynamics. They are out of the skimmer business but the company that sells them has overstock. this skimmer is a super performer and the sicce pumps are readily available if you need another down the road. Highly recommend. this skimmer design has been copied over the years because it just works. The cup only needs like a 1/4 inch top clearance to be removed so it's a good fit for reefers with clearance issues in the cabinet. No fancy bubble plate but the mixing chamber is exceptional with the smooth transition and long neck. Very solid skimmer. These are cheap so if you're interested you can PM me and i'll give you the merchant. I don't want to get in trouble with the moderators here.

aquamaxx makes the JNS equivalents but the SK2 has a slightly roomier mixing chamber

I have used a lot of skimmers and can recommend more that i have used like the tunze 9410, ATB econo 840, BK mini 160 and on and on, but they are more $$. The 3 above i have either used or seen performing on other tanks. They rock at an reasonable price and all use solid pumps.

I would like that INS80S sellers name if still available. Same issue. Need a good skimmer limited space/clearance.

PM sent

be sure to double check you skimmer space on the footprint listed. it's a tall skimmer too at 22 inches. even taller if you have to put the skimmer on a stand to get to the recommended 6.5 to 7 inches.

I have the JNS SK2 on my 120 it is a good skimmer and works well. I also like the Reef Dynamics skimmers shown above but for a 120 gallon tank I would get the INS 135 models the company sells that one as well.

Thanks, is this a quiet skimmer? I can’t find reviews on that.
it not super quiet like my ATB nano one but mainly because i pull all my airlines from the silencers. the pump does not have a soft connection to the body so you will get some sound (not bad though). In the pics you see a red silicone mat under the skimmer and that helps a ton. bought that on amazon for a few bucks. I am going to trim the down pipe connecting to the pump on mine and add a 1 1/4' tube for the pump to body connection. That will make a huge difference in sound. If you need super silent skimmer then dont get this one. If your cabinet can muffle some resonant sound and you want a skimmer that skims, then this is a sure bet.
