Essence S 130 or Classic 152s

Does anyone have any experience with both of them? I am stuck. I like the features of the 130 but the 152 is a classic proven design and it's rated a little bigger. Will be going on a lightly stocked 75 that will eventually migrate to heavy stock... probably.

I have the 130 on a newish (3 months old) tank and like it so far. Its almost dead silent and pulls good skim, and is easy to adjust. Tank is fairly lightly stocked at the moment though with 5 fish, all under 2 inches except for a 3 inch tomini tang.

The build is similar but if it were me I would do classic 150INT if I could fit it. The gate valve water level control and external pump are simply better.

Just got a s130 my chair is 2 foot away, it is dead silent. First in sump skimmer so I have nothing to compare it to.

I like the external pump because it means a larger reaction chamber which often leads to increased performance and it makes the pump easier to remove for cleaning which often means it gets cleaned more and then lasts longer and functions better. The gate valve is also a bit more robust on the classic skimmers which should help it last longer and make it easier to make fine adjustments.

The only thing that could make me go with a space saver model is if I couldn't fit the standard skimmer. Other wise the standard skimmer is superior.

Thank you very much for the input, i may end up going that route. Still mulling it all over. How are they noise wise? So far everything else has been geared for silence that I've built on this tank, so i was hoping to keep it quiet as a church mouse.

I have an S-130 on a Waterbox 75.2 and I like it. It's quiet & was a good value compared to the direct competitors.
Like you I valued silence, so I'm quite pleased. It's also easy to disassemble to clean - no screws to get the pump out of the body.
The air silencer is integrated into the neck which is interesting, but seems to work well so far.

I believe all 3 skimmers use the same aquatrance pump and have air silencers. I think it will be a draw noise wise.
