My girlfriend decided to buy an essential oil diffuser last night and was upset that I told her she should only use it in the bedroom because of the fish tank. Am I right by doing this or is it safe using in the same area as my tank. I live in a town home so my living room, dining area and kitchen are all open and pretty large. But if it is unsafe then I will continue to only use it in our bedroom.

There is no data I know of regarding reef tanks and eo. there is some limited writings about air diffusers/scent systems from last decade etc causing white slime. although the resounding offer w be to limit exposure, nobody can state reliably what w go down. I for one want to see what frankincense diffused w do to a reef tank, the $65 stuff :)

I asked nicely to curtail the glade plugins lavender scent from every receptacle in the house for similar reasons. it wasn't just protection of my own passages, the reef factored too.

My wife runs ones, but it's always in a different room, and I haven't seen any negative effects. It may be worth it to be safe rather than sorry. I'd just keep it as far away as possible keeping the mist from possibly coming in contact with the tank.

Just a FYI...
I had my carpets cleaned one year. They used some aerosol cans for spot cleaning close to my reef.
Well, I got the biggest and longest lasting bacteria growth in my reef from that freak'n air borne aerosol.
I wouldn't wish it on any reefer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife  still burns candles but... If she buys those glade plug-ins she saw the damage that our reef went through and she wont plug one in the den to this day :)

All I'm saying is... Please, "Play it safe!"

I have several diffusers in my house but not in the same room as the tank.

Honestly, I get more worried about soaps and creams on skin than the diluted essential oil. My oils are 5 or less drops per 8 ozs so it's not very strong anyway.
