Has anyone had an essential oil diffuser in the same room as their tank? Just thinking as this becomes more trendy if anyone has already found that there have been affects due to its use.

Definitely following this. My wife has a habit of using plug-in air fresheners near my protein skimmers. Or the house is just sprouting them out of the outlets. I unplug and find a new home for them just because it seems like they would be a bad idea right next to my tank's primary water/air interface. I'd like to know if this is backed up by science or if there is nothing to back up my fear. Good topic.

Some folks have reported bacterial problems, perhaps from bacteria that feed on the released organic material.
Thanks Randy....I was hoping you would know about this! I wonder if this may relate to how some people lose tanks full of fish overnight sometimes....buildup of organics and bacterial blooms or maybe the movement of some oils into the tank water building up or poisoning the fish...not sure what they could be though.

I suppose it depends on the particle size of the aerosol being generated. Particles 10 microns and greater fall out of suspension rather quickly. I'd say within 6ft of the device.
Smaller particles could become airborne and travel father distances, potentially reaching a tank on the other side of a room.

If you smell it when you walk in the room, then fragrance particles are in the air. I run GAC so it is probably pulling them out anyways. I just have had old school reefers over to my house that can smell a glad plug in from the drive way and tell me I need to get them out of my fish room pronto.

I unplug them and find outlets elsewhere in the house, then my wife gets up in my grill because I vape down there. And I can't really argue with her logic.
