This is by no means intended to be an article but rather a one stop shop to search for quick tips for new reefers/expose some of our unconventional ways of doing things, but rather a fun interactive posting game with good content for anyone new to reefing!

Ground rules for this hopefully to grow encyclopedia of tips!

  1. 2 tips per post.
  2. You may have as many posts as you'd like to submit
  3. No repeat tips
  4. No bashing another user because you disagree; everyone in this hobby does something different and we should all respect that.
  5. Have fun!

1.) 1ml per 10gallons of Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) for a week as most recommend will continue to have effects days / weeks after the treatment has been completed.

2.) If you're trying to use Tangs to control algae; the Kole Tang has a bristled mouth and will be able to rip it off rocks much easier!

1) Only mess with it as much as you have to. Do it once the way you want it and don't mess with it again, if possible. This applies to so many things. Powerheads, lights, skimmer height, rock placement, etc,.
Let it settle, let it be stable for a while. If you have to move it, you have to move it.
You'll know.

2) Use that search button! It's my best friend. It's always there for me when others aren't and sometimes a lot more helpful.

1. Be patient. This can be applied in many areas: waiting for a tank to cycle, wanting corals to grow out, removing an algae outbreak, trying to get a finicky fish to eat, etc. You'll get there eventually, just continue to be persistent and watchful.

2. Relax. I say this as much to myself as others. It's so easy to get stressed out and worried about every little detail, so allow yourself to step back and enjoy the masterpiece you're creating every-once-in-awhile.

1) Macroalgae can be a wonderful thing for easy nutrient export (I wouldn't pick Caulerpa, though) - chaeto and dragon's breath

2) Read high quality articles about how to successfully run a reef tank. There are tons of articles (and information) out there, so be sure to pick reputable sources. I find Randy's articles to be excellent (nitrate, phosphate, the grandmother kalkwasser article, and seawater parameters)

keep an eye on it. changes either good or bad often happen fast. time is everything. never rush.. good luck..

1) have backup power, know your equipment priority
2) pay attention to coral positioning in rockscape , as they grow towards light the shade underneath deter others growth. Flow is also influenced by position
