Essentials for a new sump ! Im starting and building a new sump from scraps ive collected (im very poor lol ) its gonna be simple. Itll be the inlet with filter socks going into a refugium into a smaller section with a uv sterilizer. Eventually to a hang on theback of the sump skimmer and then back to the return section. I know that i need a return pump. I dont wanna drill anything so what will i need to get the water to the sump ? Also. How do i transition from the hub filter to the sump without restarting ? All help appreciated

Pass on the UV and any associated sections. A fuge, a return area that doesn't does microbubbles (ie is large enough), and maybe a live rock rubble section, if you have room, IMO, is all you need.

I have the sterilizer it was free so why not use it. I like Crystal clear. Water. Its a 20 gal tank well soon to be sump for a 36 gal bowfront

Mentioning it's for a tiny sump may help in the future :)

Use it if you have it... I would just run the return line through it though, rather than a dedicated area for it.

Thanks ! I just didnt know if running it before or after the refuge would be better i dont wanna kill the good things in the refuge

So how UV works at killing things is actually very straight forward. Do some research.... distance from bulb, wattage of bulb, and time of contact, all play a role.
