hey guys, I’ve got a 40 breeder soft coral tank. I moved into this tank back in August and the biggest change was lighting. I went from LED to T5. It took a month or so for most of coral to adujust and everything looks fantastic except my toadstools and devils hands. They open up partially for about a day, and only every two weeks or so.

I have tried moving them to lower and higher light spots as well as more/less flow. Parameters are all in check and like I said, everything else in the tank is happy as a calm ;) except my toadstools and devils hands.

One problem with the tank is I have issues with my sand blowing from time to time. But I’ve put all the above mentioned corals in places that the sand does not blow and got the same results. Any advice?

If any sand blows on them they will not open and take days to shes sometimes it’s normal

Ok that’s what I wanted to know! I’ll have to get some larger grain sand to put on top of my current sand.

Thanks!

My sand sifter goby throws sand all over so I keep mine generally higher up in the tank or on some rock work. They also grow and shed their skin so it looks like they are closed for days but it is perfectly normal. This can be them simply growing so just make sure they are in a spot where they won’t be disrupted

In my experience they do not like sand blowing on them. I lost a toadstool in my tank move because wasn't sure of flow patterns and the sand ended up irritating it and it was too late. Ended up melting within 2 days. Mine seem to like medium to high flow and middle to low in the rocks for toadstool. And higher on the rocks for devil's hand.
