I have read that a tank should be established for atleast a year before you put any Acroporas into it. Does anyone have any experience with keeping them in a tank that is under a year old? Is this something that is more of a rule of thumb or is it something you should live by? Personal experience would be great.
Thanks

I added sps 2 weeks after water, sand, and LR were added to my tank.I also cured the LR for almost 2 months prior to adding it to the tank.I ran GFO and Carbon from day 1 and always use 0ppm RO/DI water so I went through the algae stage for a few days and it was gone, here we are 2 1/2 months later and all is well 20+ frags of sps and about 8 chalice.I think as long as you test your parameters and make sure they are stable for a couple weeks and you have already gone through your cycling stage then you should be fine.Just to be sure add a more hardy sps piece like a montipora as a tester and if it does fine for a week or so then I would start adding slowly. So IME it's more of a rule of thumb:)

I dont think thats true.. i believe after about 2-3 months and if all your parameters are stable ... andddddd make sure u continue to do regular water changes then you should be fine! Maybe itll be good to start with the cheaper sps first. Green slimer, a few montis... Goodluck to you,,,

as long as your parameters are stable and doing well then you can even start adding SPS in the tank within several weeks of starting it up. Be it you have the right lighting, skimming, water circulation and proper husbandry.

I have a monti capricornis, birds nest, and a green acro, not sure what kind, and all are doing fine so far so I think I will try and add a few more slowly. Thanks for eveyones advice.
