I picked up the 8 gallon B-Ionic calcium buffer system from another reefer with a bunch of other stuff. it hasn't been opened but it says it was packaged in 2011. I don't think this goes bad but is this too old? Should I look out for something?

If it's never been open and seeing that it's shipped concentrated I would think it's ok. I've used ESV for years and honestly don't recall ever seeing a use by date on any of the containers.

Did you end up using it ? Or buying another batch? Have some from 2014 that I am contemplating using emailed esv but have not gotten a response

If it's clear and theres no precipitation fallout .... IMO.... elements are elements and if theres hasn't been any chemical "bonding" it should be useable. My only concern would of the water, the actual H2O, if its "foul" or not. Meaning strange bacteria in the H2O. Idk man. I'm not a chemist
