ESV Bionic Alk Odor???

Silly question. I am having some issues with my SPS tank and went to change my 2part (I’m switching to BRS from ESV) and there was a strong ammonia like odor that smacked me in the face when I removed the lid. I have never noticed this before with my 2part. It was certainly out of the alk side of the container. Just curious if anyone else has ever experienced this?

I have mixed ESV added to dosing containers etc. several times and never noticed it before today.

I’m sorry I don’t have any insight as to where the ammonia smell is coming from. I’ve manually dosed Bionic for years and always considered it to be odorless so I’m following along to see what others have to say.

I’ve never smelled anything. Did your doser back siphon at one point somehow?

No siphon back. It goes directly in tank and is above the water line a good 2”

Are you sure it wasn't just you? You do work some long hard hours sometimes

I can't say I remember an ammonia smell from my ESV alk solution, but I had an issue where it became discolored. Was having issues with all the hard corals and eventually noticed the liquid had turned a pale brown color. After this I stopped dosing from a container and just dose directly from the ESV gallon jugs. I shouldn't had had a back siphon in my case as I used a check valve to protect against that. Granted the valve could have failed.
