ESV Salt

I was wondering...after I go through a box and had some left over salt. Can I use it to season my...Thanksgiving Turkey!

If you talk to the guys at ESV they do nor recommend mixing in different proportions. You have to follow directions. The salt was not designed to mix according to the parameters you like. It would be nice if one can do that.

But it is generally advised against modding the mixing. Proportions have to be exact.

Also if you do not aerate how are you going to match the pH of bucket to that of your tank. pH of freshly mixed salt is sometimes high compared to that of your tank. I have seen pH of fresh batch as high as 8.5.

Try this just add salt and magnesium mix and measure your salinity. It not going to be right. Only after you add component A and B the salinity is going to be right. They do not label calcium and alkalinity why. It is called component A and B for a reason.

I've been using it for 2 years now. Never had an issue, ready for use immediately after mixing the last liquid into it. Mixes clear, no residue. I mix by weight (using a digital scale from Harbor Freight tools) -- even the liquid components. If I could weight out the water, I would too, but, that's not practical. Best salt out there in my opinion, after a decade in the hobby of using other salts.

I use a scale and have 130 gallon make up container. I can easily make 50 or 120 depending on what is needed to fill tank and it is very consistent. I have been using for a year and the only problem I have is what to do with all the measuring cups. It is a full 200 gallons of mix and my LFS gives me a pretty big discount when I buy in bulk. If I do go back to IO I will figure out a way to weigh larger amounts. Measuring by weight makes this salt easy.

That was the seller for me. So you can mix it to exactly match tank parameters?

The concern with doing that is the unmeasured things in the mix may not be at the right levels if you mess with the ratios to get the few things you do measure where you want them.

i don't know how big of a concern that is since I do not know what exactly is in the several parts. But that is presumably why ESV discourages the practice.

I was a long time Reef Crystals user and just got tired of cleaning the brown crud out of my containers. I switched to ESV about 6 months ago and its great so far. I measure it out with the provided scoops and it comes out pretty close. Ive never understood why RC can't figure out how to make salt that doesn't leave that nasty brown stain on everything.

I Always follow directions. Still haven't broke into tge box, just finished off rc.
Will make my first batch this weekend.

I switched to ESV about a yer ago and I have not looked back. The salt mixes up very clear and I get consistent results everytime. I measure by volume currently but have been debating on going by measuring with weight.

I just made my first batch last weekend. Was very easy to mix and cleared fast.

I measure by weight

I've been using it almost a year and love it. I have a litermeter and the Red Sea would have so much crud that wouldn't dissolve and would clog up my lines. Not a problem with ESV. My mixing tank is still as clean as it was a year ago. The LFS where I buy mine also uses it in their system so you can buy it in bulk that makes up 1000 gal. It comes in 40 lb. bags and 3 5 gal. Buckets. I bought containers from uline and measure the components out into 40 gal. Batches so now I just grab one bottle of each pre measured component and mix.
