As usual with ESV B-Ionic Seawater Mix, I am out of Part B first. I still have a few pounds of NaCl, a pound or two of Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, and almost half a jug left of Part A. I am on a very tight budget and wanting to see if I can stretch out what I have left.
I used one drop of Part B to 4mL of distilled water to test with Saliferts Alk test and got an alk of 17.6 dKH(6.3meq/L or 314ppm). The same test for my DiY alkalinity mix using baked baking soda gave me 28dKH/10meq/500ppm. Now my question is can I use my DiY mix at ~60% concentration as a suitable replacement for the ESV Part B?
I know ESV mixes in the trace elements etc. in with the liquid parts of the mix, but I'm not sure if it is with Part A (calcium), Part B (alkalinity), or both. Their secret recipe is more unknown than Coca Cola's from what I can find online, so if anyone has some information it would be greatly appreciated. Their seawater mix is easily the best and the only one I prefer to use so I don't want to throw something way out of whack by adding in my own "Part B".
