Euphyllia bail out - What can i get better?

Not really sure what to do but sit here and watch but in the last 2 days all my Euphyllia have started to just peel off their bases. About 2 weeks ago a Frog Spawn went in a day. After that I had power outage on and off for a week with the longest outage for 12 hours. I keep airstones in the tanks and the temp stayed between 78 and 81?
But since the power outage I have lost a Blue Spotted Jaw fish ( I assume that was the heat swings, still in the tank some where), 2 Days ago I notice my Large Golden Wall Hammer bailing out and today my large Torch Colony and new Frog Spawn are all bailing. Zoa and Shrooms look real good though.


Temp - 79 ish since the power outage the calibration between the JBJ chiller and the Apex has been off by a few points. My Hanna pen seems to be more in line with Apex around 80
PH - 8.1 to 8.2
KH -7.8 (this is a small shift. It is usually around 8.3)
Ca - 475
Mag -1550
NO3 - 30
PO4 - .06

did a 10 percent water change last week end.

On the up side of a Ostreopsis battle that I'm treating with UV dosing Microbactor 7 and Phyto.

I have also been aggressively treating Aiptasia with Aiptesia-X


triton test was all good with these notes
Strontium - low 5 mb/l
Iodine - 0 mg /l

My 8 year old look at me sad and dejected this morning wanting to quit. We also lost a Leopard Wrasse in QT because of the power outage.

Anything notable standing out I could change or get better before I try again. Noting they are not all wiped out but .. it does not look like they are slowing down..

Have you been changing your carbon regularly? After the stress of the power outage and the toxins released by the dinos, that could explain the euphyllia kicking it.

Could also be spilling aptasia X. I use kalk paste myself, but I've missed the aptasia before and killed a nearby coral on accident. Doing this with flow turned off helps a lot to prevent mishaps.

No I have not been changing the Carbon. I will do that today.

I turn the flow of when I put the Aiptaisia - X on but I cover those Effers and it often blows losely in the tank when I turn the flow back on? File fish in QT now so hopefully I don't have to worry about that.

it hurts to watch.... Should I move them to my QT tank? Specific Gravity is quite different 1.023 vs 1.026... the flesh is just peeling away..urrrggg... also who know that I apparently beat back the the majority of the dino's with florescent green algae? can't see that at all with the blues on...

A lot going wrong currently hard to pinpoint what caused bailing but maybe it was a combo of Dino’s / temp fluctuation / power outage. Have you looked into broadcast dosing cipro ? It seems like a bacterial issue. Also have you checked stray voltage ?

It anything water changes and stability are always a good go to , did you notice any brown jelly on any of the dying pieces ?

Not on the wall hammer or the Frogspwan... There was some brown stringy stuff on the torch where it was letting go

Lookup brown jelly disease It may be that, there is a thread on treating it using cipro

So I checked voltage on a Digital Multimeter. Set to 200 VAC. Put black in ground on the outlet and red into sump. With he UV on I get a reading of .2 with UV off I get 0.

I have no real reference but I'm guessing .2 is not a real issue?

Something that would constitute a possible issue that may impact sensitive probe readings would be greater than 10V.

Something that would create a perceptible shock would be above 30V.

Something that is dangerous and could be potentially fatal to someone sticking their hand in the tank is above 100V.

It sounds like you have a lot going on with a still maturing tank?

If that is the case then there is a constant battle of bacteria and algea going on until a balance is reached.

Corals really don't like that and will bail in those atmospheres.

I wonder if there is a correlation between green algae and Euphyllia bailout. In my 32g, I have been fighting algae issues forever. I had a small hammer in that tank and it didn't last long. My 55g had a small GHA outbreak that came and went and I have never had an issue like this in that tank.

Perhaps this is just a fluke, but it does make me wonder.

Yes this is what is part of what is happening.

Your tank is still finding its footing nutrient wise.


Until you find the balance of import and export the corals in the tank will continue to struggle.

What are you using for export?

Did you start with live or dry rock?

What's your feeding schedule?

Pellets in the morning. 1 cube Brine 1 cube mysis at night. I split that with my QT tank. But now that some fish are gone I should probably cut that back.

Skimmer, Fleece socks and Phosphate reactor with rophos.
Been heavily dosing MB7 for Ostreopsis with phyto.

todays test has NO3 at 17 and NO4 at .06
