I have a new hulk torch that I placed about 2-3 inches away from one of my other torches. I am not sure what species the other one is. Everything was fine for a week or so then I notice the head closest to the other torch has been injured. I moved the injured hulk torch to my frag tank to recover, but I am confused as to why the other torch attacked it.

My understanding was most euphyllia get along okay with each other. I suppose sometimes that is not the case though. I also have a RBTA that was within say 3-4 inches of the hulk torch. I was wondering if they harm corals or not. If so, he just hates the hulk in particular because the RBTA is sitting right next to the other torch and has been for a long time with no issues.

I was really hoping to have a big part of my aquascape covered in torches, but now I am wondering if that will be possible.

Does anyone have any thoughts or words of advice?

Could you show some photos of the torch in question that has the injury? Do you know where the torches were from? Indo, Aussie, etc?

You answered your own question: "My understanding was most euphyllia get along okay with each other. I suppose sometimes that is not the case though."
Not really much else to say. I've had the same with gonis. Some get along, others don't.

I have torches from different regions touching with no issues. I suspect it's your BTA protecting its space.

While most euphyllia as in my case gets along, Torch seem to pack the most powerful stings. Torches are aggressive corals that protect themselves by wielding their sweeper tentacles maliciously. Sweeper tentacles are specialized tentacles that extend much larger than the typical tentacles and are equipped with stinging cells. Torches will send out these long tendrils to zap anything nearby within reach.

I will get some pictures. I have no idea if it is Indo or Aussie. I have been trying to find a list somewhere of Indo and Aussie torches so I can avoid the Aussie ones. They seem much harder to keep.

Yes my experience is that they are definitely more difficult to keep long term.

The hulk torch was sitting just down and to the left of the very top torch. It was not attached so ignore the frag plug and the putty you see.

The damage started on the left head, but it looks like both heads are going to die. It really sucks. I hate to see my pets die.
