I am trying to figure out what type of glass i would need for a 150cmx70cmx50cm (LxWxH) Reef ready tank setup (bare bottom) with an internal herbie overflow system to handle 1200gph return pump (at 4' head). I have a couple of doubts I need cleared before going to the tank maker to get it made. I need to double check his expertise with this forum and myself as I dont know how good his advice is and I dont want to make a mistake on a big tank.
1. WHICH PART OF THE TANK IS TEMPERED OR NOT TEMPERED? So.. I am thinking of having the front, back and two sides of the glass non-tempered and the bottom will have the holes drilled and then tempered (eurobrace is non tempered also). Is this how it is normally done? Is it the right/safe way to go?
FYI - Glass is 12 mm thick
2. Normal glass vs clear/starphire glass - I am thinking of getting the front, eurobrace and side glass in clear glass and the rest will be normal glass. Or should I go for all normal glass? I want this as a show tank so it needs to look good. Has anyone regretted going starphire/clearglass?
3. SILICONE - The guy recommended black silicone sealant that is supposed to be much better than normal silicone. Can someone tell me what this is and if it is true. If so how much better?
I might have some more questions as things come along. I appreciate the help.
Thanks.
