[TD="class: alt1"]I bought a used 200dd that has euro bracing and broken top trim. The top trim is broke to the point that it is not doing anything. The tank is 48x36 and 26 tall. It is half inch glass and the euro bracing is 2.5 wide. It also has a 20 inch wide piece of glass like a center brace on the inside of the tank that is half inch glass running from front to back. I want to remove the top trim and clean it up to be rim less look. I am concerned if it would hold? Anyone know?

Generally for tanks higher than 22" you need thicker than 1/2" glass, this is why the tank was eurobraced. You'll see a ton of rimless tanks under 24", this is due to the increased expense of the 3/4" glass typically needed for rimless. This is usually for 4' tanks though. Since you have a 3' tank maybe you can get away with it?

No, the tank won't hold by itself. It'll bow out, and eventually fail. Your going to need that brace in there.

Thanks for the reply, I'm not thinking of removing the euro brace, I want to remove the plastic trim and keep the euro brace. I am wondering if it will be good without the plastic?

You can remove it BUT may want to consider ( I would personally do it my self) re doing the euro bracing.
Rtv-108 is some of the strongest epoxy out there for glass gluing, windshield company's use it on cars and some glass tank company's use it
I would go to a local glass shop and tell them u was 1/2 glass 4 inches wide and re frame that whole thing

But that's just me
And my two cents

Good luck.a pic might help to tell if its good the way it is or not

Im pretty sure your sfe removing the plastic, and repairing the bracing. Unless it leaves the center brace out. Thats an important piece right there.
