So my tank water is evaporating pretty quickly anyway to reduce this? Will getting a glass lid help or will it mess with reef lights?

I would get an auto top off instead of trying to fight with evaporation. You want to have adequate air flow over the surface of the water for gas exchange, glass tops hinder this process.

Agreed. Ato.

However. I have lids on both my tanks.

1/2in acrylic. In summer I have a set with holes cut and mesh installed. (No chiller)

You need to manually top off your tank with fresh RODI water or purchase an ATO (automatic top off) system. Evaporation is a fact of life in our hobby. You need to be consistent with freshwater top off as water evaporates and salt does not, leading to salinity fluctuations which will not be good for your tank inhabitants, especially coral. I’m a big fan of the Tunze 3155 ATO and use it on all of my tanks.

+1 An ATO is my best answer also. My tank loses about a gal per day and with the ato I only have to worry about refilling the reservoir every 4-5 days. One of the best purchases I’ve made and a necessity imo
