Ok everyone, just wondering what all you do to combat evaporation issues. I have set up a 90 gallon tank with 30 gallon sump which is currently cycling. I seem to be losing about 1.5-2 inches of water in the sump about every three to four days which requires me adding approx. 3 gallons of new water. I know we are at a dry time here as winter is getting going but I am curious to what people have found to help other than covering the tank off. I have open tops on both the tank and sump. Lets hear your thoughts! Thanks...

Auto Top off unit.. I go though about a gallon and a half to 2 gallons a DAY on my 75.. Really no way to fight it.

I top off bout 4-5g every 3 days in the winter months.

+++ ATO on my 90 DT with a 40 sump....and I go through about 1 1/2 gallons a day. It's normal.

And to think, prior to the tank, when we had young kids, I ran a humidifier 24/7 during the winter months. I now have to run a dehumidifier in the winter to keep the moisture from condensing on the plaster walls.

I have set a 5 gallon bucket of water close to my tank and it seems to slow down the evaporation.

Which is just increasing the humidity in the room. You can either top off manually every day or two or automate it like a lot of reefers do. There are quite a few options to choose from for an ATO system.
