well I was gonna say yes its drier in the winter and ATO is worth the money but everyone else already said the same thing

I would defiantly go with an ATO vs a blind timed fresh water dosing system. As environmental conditions change a timed dosing system has to be adjusted and if you are not checking your salinity all the time you could wind up in bad shape. At least an ATO is designed not to over or under add replacement water. When I get the money I will defiantly be getting a controller to add levels of control to my ATO. ATM I am just using a gravity and a float valve. My RO/DI storage is a 14 gallons and above the level of my sump. In order to protect myself the feed from the barrel is close to the top, that way only the top 5 gallons is available as ATO water. If I ever feel the need I can always close the valve on that output and hookup the float to the feed I have at the bottom of the barrel.

I've been using the same aqualifter pump and digital timer for over 10 years to keep up with evaporation. It has 20 settings so I set it for 1 or 2 minutes per hour and just adjust it a few times a year as needed. If you size your reservoir right, you can't have an overflow if there is a problem.

Same here except I use a BRS 50ml/m doser and my Apex. I just dose a gallon of kalkwasser throughout the night. It can never fail in the on position.

"Can't a dosing pump stick also? Then you can overdose your calcium and corbonate. My ato has an emergency float switch so if the ato sticks in the on position then it will cut it off. I think it may also have a timer that will turn the ato pump off if it stays on for too long."

No a dosing pump is always on.. so technically it is already stuck lol.
