I’ve noticed I’m having a lot of issues with evaporation recently more so from my sump. Every 2/3 days I’m losing up to 8 litres a day? Does this make any sense i never used to see this happen before temperate is at 26 degrees ?

You will see the evaporation of the system by watering lowering in your sump. Evaporation rates vary a lot from tank to tank. But somewhere around 1% of the system volume per day is normal.

Yeah I’m noticing it in my sump the last chamber where the pump sits it goes so low then I start getting a flushing noise from the overflow pipe that’s a lot of water to be evaporating though

What are we talking about alot of water?
And how big is your system?
There are some systems out there that loose 5, 10, 15 gallons a day!!
That is perfectly normal.

Also that noise your hearing and the water dropping in the return chamber is perfectly normal. Water will evoraprate from the lowest part of your system which is your return pump chamber.

I would strongly suggest not letting it get that low as to where you start hearing water flucturating. You wanna keep your waters salinity pretty consistent.

I would highly suggest an a.t.o you will kick yourself for not buying one sooner i promise you

I think the system is 700 litres in total? Not sure but losing like up to 10 litres in 2/3 days. The problem is that’s a lot of RO water im going to have to get I’ve never had issue with evaporation this quick before

For reference my a.t.o kicks on like every hour pretty normal... also your gonna get more evorpation due to ambient temps and humidity...

I have a section on my sump that’s for holding RO water for top off just never used it before don’t even know how to

When you say you have never had problem with evorapration before what time fram are we talking about?

Weather outside changes its gonna effect your evorapration rate. I go through way much water in summer with the humidity so high, plus as temp raise I have a fan cooling off the tank which is gonna cause much more evorapration.

For reference im running a 20 gallon waterbox at the moment with high humidity and temps in the 90s with a fsn kicking on 20 minutes out of every hour and im losing 1 gallon every three days...

A.T.O = auto top off
This is a unit that uses some sort of sensor whether it be float or optical to maintain a consistent water level in your tank.

You set your sensor at the point where you want to keep your water level at. When said water level drops due to evorapration the sensor reads this and tells a pump (which is located in your ro water resevoir) to turn on until the water level is back at your pre determined level.

I had a 300 litre tank before and maybe after 2 weeks I’d notice 15 litres had evoprated but now it’s working a few days I’m losing that much

Evaporation rates vary by temperature and relative humidity. Higher temperatures with low humidity will evaporate more water than lower temperatures at the same humidity. Although the room temperature for my system is higher during the Summer than the Winter, humidity is also much higher so I lose much less to evaporation.

Sounds expensive

An ATO keeps your SG the same throughout the day.
You need an ATO for stability of your system.
Look at a Tunze which is anywhere from $100-200.
My 120's, 500 liters, evaporation rate is 2 gallons a day.
Nothing in this hobby is inexspensive lol.
