So without going into great detail (although I will if you really want to know) ... I was running an ULNS, SPS started struggling. So recently started dosing stump remover ... nitrates around 7ppm and working on raising P04 slightly thru feeding flake food

Also dosing Acropower. So while some sps still have SOME color and and decent PE, there is this guy sitting in the back of the tank. This guy has NEVER fully colored up ...BUT if you notice, there is this one piece in the back, that has AMAZING color and good PE.

Now again... notice the rest of the colony ... it is lacking color. BUT the one small piece looks amazing!

This is crazy to me .. because it is attached to the main colony, and not like its getting special treatment and special nutrients ... lol. This is bizarre to me

My only thought was maybe it is an indication of light .. ? And how it is somewhat in the back and not getting the full amount of light as the rest of the colony?

I wouldnt concern myself with this. I had a very large colony of sps (like 10" dia) I broke it down to smaller colonies. Two of which are next to each other. Once has insane PE, while the other has next to none. Its very difficult to please all coral.

Have you done a triton test? When I had bad polyp extension, I sent one off and found that I had traces of tin in my system. Did a huge (80%) water change, and things looked better almost immediately. Also, I have also had issues with PE when I had red bugs, a simple Interceptor treatment and PE came back within a day.

Yah I am not concerned with it, as I have already identified the root of my problem within my system and it lacking BIG TIME nutrients like Nitrate and p04 (both were at 0!) so I have sinced started to combat that and things are shwoing improvement ..

I was just amazed that all thru ought this time of the system being stressed and sps not responding an dlooking good at all, this one small piece has ALWAYS looked amazing. Like what makes that little piece so different from the rest, and that it was and still is attached and a branch of a mother colony that is not doing good.
