Ok, so we all know this but even as an experienced reefer i get lazy. It had been a long time since I had taken my equipment apart to check to make sure all seals were tight and everything looked good. I had probably not done this for over a year. I was really lucky i was having a coral problem that prompted me to do this. I discovered that the seal that holds the glass sleeve in my UV sterilizer had broken down to the point where it was going to leak very soon. THis would have put saltwater directly on a light socket. It could have led to burning my ouse down at worst and not having power to my tank at best. I just want to encourage everyone to check their equipment I know it sucks but my gosh is it worth it. And remember most of the equipment in our hobby is not meant to last 5 years plus so when it gets a few years old it needs maintenance like anything else.
