Little introduction first... had saltwater tanks in the past but not real experienced in it. Mostly been a freshwater guy. I bred champion bettas for a while, and have a planted tank that's been up for a few years now.

My saltwater interest began like this; I saw a tank many years ago that i liked, however a shady salesmen sold me the wrong equipment so I never got close to that goal. Fast forward to last year I attempted to try again and was again misled by some sales person into the wrong equipment. I still have that last mistake running, more on that later.

The tank i've been wanting is simply this: clownfish with a host anemone as the centerpiece. everything else secondary.

So now i'm working toward that goal. I picked up a used 24g nano cube that came with a 28g pro series led hood. The previous owner had a rbta and clownfish in it before upgrading. Got the tank almost a month ago and started it running, lights on.

I set it up fuge-style... water goes in the overflow (i have the skimmer attachment) onto some filter floss, that is over one of the stock sponges. the middle section has a media rack that i put some cheato in, and the glass is scraped clear on the back to allow a nano-glo light to shine on it (reverse photoperiod). 3rd chamber has a 100w heater and a maxi jet 900.

to cycle I put down a bag of arga-alive sand, and a 6lb chunk of really purple rock. Also put my cleaning crew in, 4 snails, 5 hermit crabs.

It's been running for I lost track how long. Had a diatom bloom, and then an algae bloom.

Figured the Algae was a pretty good sign i was cycled, also was thinking i needed much more rock. Also had ordered some chemi-pure elite to put between my filter floss and sponge. Today was my first day off in a couple weeks so I ran across town and bought 35lbs of rock from a local guy that was getting out of the hobby (his tank was still up and running with fish and coral and everything - not a dead tank). Put the rock and the chemi-pure in, tried to brush the algae off the glass (didn't quite work- any ideas?) and then tested the water. 7.8 or 7.9 ph, 0 ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.

Not just holding out for confirmation that it's ok to relocate the stock from my running 3 gallon consisting of one clown goby, some rubble for the refugarium, and the random ampihipods that live in it's filter.

Also I have the following extra equipment if there is anything i can use:
extra glass tanks, 10-20g
extra heaters 5-150w
cans of brine shrimp eggs
lots of air pumps

I would use a scrapper designed for glass tanks or a razor to remove the algae. You'll want to add some supplemental flow, another power head to the display.

The clown goby is going to get lost in that tank lol. You can probably move every thing over.

Great start!

Goby went in this morning, along with rubble to the fuge and whatever amphipods I could catch.

I personally don't think you need to modify the tank. You're gonna have to go in there at least once a week with an algae scrub pad and clean your glass. I have the same aquarium as you do.

Looking good!

getting algae again... not the fluffy plant-like stuff this time but just green... and i think i see a spot of bubble algae :X Think the water change got put off a little too far. Should have done it last weekend.

Picked up a maxi jet 1200... I know that's what most people run in this configuration. I'll leave the 900 in till i know it needs to be changed though. For now it's mixing saltwater for me.

Considering removing some of the rock. Think it's a bit cluttered, but one that needs to go cost me almost 70.

Also picked up and added:
3 Certh snails
3 Nacissus snails
1 mocha Ocelleris clown
1 orange Ocelleris clown

Now I need to find a nem for them. Lfs only has Condi...

Found the Clown goby... he got stuck in the skimmer. seems to be okay now.

Might have some apastia that came in with the new rock. Tough to tell but i see tiny tentacles coming out of holes in the rock in a couple places. Too small to photograph.

Also have this strange thing growing on a rock. Paly maybe? Not real interesting looking. Really small... magnified about 4x

And I saw this at a lfs.. anyone know what they are? about the size of a quarter...

Been a long time since i updated. Tank ran great for a while, then around the time i got the frag tank i had flatworms and bobbit worms in both tanks in no time. then the led hood died 1 led at a time, so the nems died and i didn't realize what was going on until all that was left was the fish. Repaired the hood but it died again not long after. By this point i had shut down the frag tank and started using the light from it, and it turned out to be too bright so i had Cyano issues for almost a year when i figured out the light had been turned all the way up, and the fuge light had died at some point too. so basically everything in the tank was dead except my 2 clowns, couple hermits and a lot of bristle worms.

Now i have the light turned all the way down and the tank has mostly come back. recently replaced the media with some i had laying around, And the cheato actually came back. I didn't even know there was any left. Coraline algae is really taking off on the rocks again. Tossed in some new snails, an emerald crab and a ricordea frag. not long after i started noticing some what we think are ball anemones. Added some pods today after a feeding and here's where i'm at. Not decided yet if i'm keeping this tank as a new one arrives Tuesday.

Forgot to mention i added two powerheads, one runs during the day and the other at night the opposite direction.

Gave the tank a good cleaning and added an urchin but ran out of lights on time to get a FTS.

So here's a photo of My Florida Ricordea frag lit with a convoy s2 uv flashlight, the hood's blue light and the blue coral flashlight I forgot I owned.

Update on this tank... got cleaned up, tossed some pods in but I think the bristle worms are killing them off. Started trapping and removing them. Added a yellow clown goby and a bubble tip that likes to pretend it's dead during the daylight cycle but opens full at night. Maybe it doesn't like my light, or maybe the current (changes direction at night)

The Nem is still doing this every night, it's moved further to the bottom and i'm not sure it's getting as big anymore. Still trying to trap the bristleworms, caught 51 so far. Had a run on my hermits killing my snails, they got the 2 turbos and one of the Asterna. Power outage destroyed my power strip timer so replacing that soon.

Nice tank exact same tank I have I'll give you some pointers on my tank its going on 13 years I have Truluman Leds a fuge in the middle chamber and the tank thrives!

And you will want to take two zip ties to hold you surface skimmer on if you loose power it will drop in the tank and your pump will run dry!
One of the mods I did right away!
