So, long story short, I have decided to get back into the reefing hobby after about 10 years out. I decided to start small and see if I would stick with it. So, for Christmas I started getting little by little supplies to start back up. I got the EVO 13.5 because of its simplicity and its AIO features. I got the tank started around early January. After complications of dosing ammonia the cycle took around 6 weeks and was ready.
Then i got my first shipment of fish and coral. I decided to go with a WWC 5 frag bundle and a radioactive hammer from them. I also ordered a pair of premium snowflake clowns from Pacific East Aquaculture (They are the best). I also got a couple frags from them as well (they were twice the size of the WWC corals and a lot better priced)
(As soon as i got everything in and dipped)
2 nights of not having a top, the male of my pair jumped out of the tank and was found crispy on the floor.
Also decided to pick up another coral from my LFS and my son just had to have this firefish. Also decided to try and find Tory (female clown) another mate.
The new Toby (male clownfish) was put into the tank after monitoring for a couple days in a quarantine tank (I wasn't treating anything just making sure i didn't notice anything on him.) I then put him in and he was doing fine for a few days then all of a sudden he had some white poop and couldn't hardly stay upright while swimming. In fear of him getting my other two fish sick i pulled out of the tank to put back into quarantine and medicated the other two fish for parasites as well to try and prevent any mistake i may have made. Toby didn't make it another day in quarantine and was swimming in spirals. I ended up putting him down.
I was also starting to get some diatoms. Tank had been up for prolly 2/3 weeks after cycle.
Everything went well for about another few weeks. Had some high nitrates. Was able to take care of with changing the filter floss more often. All numbers had been running stable and everything was going good. I did Notice a few aiptasia so decided to get a peppermint shrimp who has already taken care of the couple of spots i have seen
Last tank shot while everything was fine.
Until I came home yesterday. Me and my son walk in and walk to my office to check on the tank as we always do. The tanks back left corner had just to have started leaking (within 5 minutes or so) The seal on the top left had started to come apart and water was pouring out of the tank and coming fast. After some running around and cleaning up water we were able to tap up the tank. After panicking and not knowing what to do lol. I got my fish out and into a smaller tank and went and picked up a IM Peninsula 20.
And this is where we are now!
