Evolution 200 W LED or OC Reef X Series Cree?

Hello,

I have a Cadlights 40 Artisan, the tank dimension is 36x16x16 and I have a budget of around $400, I can only hang 1 light fixture since 2 would be overkill IMO I hear mostly good things with the EVO but I'm not familiar with the OCReef although they do have a remote and timer which are great features.

Since there is not much discussion on a lot of mid-level LED Fixture and I'm getting research fatigue any input would be helpful.

So R2R community let's hear it please!

First are you sure about overkill? I have 2 Led's on my 36" tank. How high will the light be off the water?

i have a 200w 20k 3g evo over my 48x48x12 (mounted high) i have no issues with lps/softies. i have not tried sps. par is low as high as i have it.
if i were to put anything else above it it would be mazzera or diy cree.

I guess if it's dimmable then it won't matter, but for the look I prefer just 1 fixture over the tank.

In terms of height high enough to cover the tank so no idea.

You may have to go awful high to cover the whole tank with one fixture. Or to cover it good I should say.

Your right, I may have to go with 2 fixtures which will probably push the budget around 500-600 range, though I would like a single fixture look, **** I'm a newbie in this hobby and all I need are the lights.

What about?

1. 2 EVO 50 watts
2. 2 Kessil
3. 2 AI Sol
4. 2 box led from some random dude in China!

Reefledlighting.com sells them. I saw a guy that has 3 of them on his 180 and he was getting some good spread.

The 200w evo is 24" long, I think that will give the coverage that you need. You would have 6" on either side of the light fixture, you should be fine.

Anyone heard of the 60 watts Cree LED from OCreef? I'm between this and the EVO.

60w that means 20 LEDs. That won't give you enough spread. If you are adamant about not using the evo I would go with two AIs since they are not much more money but you would need at least two to get good coverage.

Do you mean the AI Sol? The 150. Watts EVO is very much in contention.

I jsut saw the 150 watt evo over a 3' frag tank and it covered it nicely! I would go with either the 150 or 200 pending corals within the tank and how high over the tank you want to hang the light!

If it helps out...the regular evo g1's will cover a 36" tank if put high enough over the tank. all depends on the coral types within the tank.

The 150 W EVO is IMO a great option for my tank for the money ($399) I'm leaning away from the OCreef ($429) fixture and maybe even look at Kessil's ($265 ea) I will promise that whichever light I fix I will post pics since it's very hard to do research with limited pics or videos.

I'm going with AI nano, might as well go for the sure thing, out of curiosity mind if I ask you what type of light you use on your 36" (maybe a pic)
