Evolution is amazing

Old thread I know but... I want to know why my mimic tang has no markings at all? Just pure yellow?
Sorry for the crappy pic I just snapped it really quick.

Some juveniles look this way. Not sure why but there are large variances in appearance for many acanthurus tangs. The most amazing to me is that of the Caribbean blue tang. Yellow as a juvenile, light blue in between sometimes with yellow fins sometimes not, blue adult, dark blue when even older, some retain juvenile markings or appearance or color in to adulthood for quite awhile, and even still some fully mature large adults are so different they can look like different species - even in the same area.

When I went snorkeling in Cozumel I was absolutely astonished by these beauties

I'll keep these in likely order of age
