I got home from work today and my living room reeked like rotten algae. I wanted to gag :bad_smelly:I just did a water change friday night but decided I should do another one. As I was getting ready I noticed my not so fancy acro colony was bleaching big time. the zooxanthellae was sloughing off or something like that. I pulled the frag out and almost puked, it absolutly stank. I chucked it and did a waterchange. I am pretty sure I know what caused it and I hope its a isolated incident. When I was doing my water change I did a deep cleaning. Change out the chemi pure new phosphate remover and I pulled my big bag of zeolite out and walked over to the sink. I meant to rinse the debris out with tank water but had a momentary lapse of thought and starting rinsing it in hot tap water. After like 3 seconds it dawned on me the no no I was doing....:waaaht: Anyhow..I put the zeolite back in the tank and gave a double dose of Microbacter in hopes I didnt make too big a boo boo..apparently I did. The rest of my corals look fine so hopefully this doesnt continue. I tossed a nice big baggie of carbon in the rear chambers in hopes that it helps.

Ouch! At least you caught it early on though. What acro was it that you lost?

some poopie colony I bought for $60 from gofish as a tester to make sure sps would do ok in my tank. I just remembered I passed out without turning the pumps back on last night so they where off for like 10hours so that could of triggered it too.

You think :)

Sorry for your loss. Hope everything works out

I'm thinking lack of flow would have hurt a wild colony like that a lot faster than killing off some of the bacteria would have. either way I know it sucks when you loose something.

its not the first time I have forgot the pumps off. I turn them off to feed and EVERY night at 8:30 incase the Mandarins spawn. I forget them off while all the time so im supprised it happened like that. Last nigth I took some nyquil and was up collecting some Mandarin eggs. Next thing I know I wake up in my computer chair and just head up to bed without hitting the switch. The pump that supplys the fuge from the back chaimbers runs at all times and to think about it the only circulation was from the fuge and where I keep my zeolite so the combo probably did it. Smells better in here now. The garage where the frag is absolutly stinks.
