those of you who dont have remote sumps, what do you do to help curb the scent of the ocean?

You can put a media bag full of carbon over the holes in the skimmer top (like people do for ozone).

I will be getting the skimmate locker shortly or if you don't have the $ just have the collection cup plumbed and emptying into a 5 gallon bucket with a lid.

The skimmate locker is only beneficial if you have their Swabbie or some other device that keeps the throat clean. A dirty throat greatly reduces skimmer effectiveness. Having a place to dump skimmate so you don't have to clean the cup and throat is just being lazy.

also theese are cool if they fit/ you dont overflow, i dont have one personally but looks like a good idea

Not really true on the skimmate locker. It holds as much skimmate as my 250 extreme collection cup. I'm not using it to go longer between cleanings. I would be emptying it out just the same but would have the added benefit that if the skimmer went crazy for whatever reason it would shut the skimmer down plus cut down on the smell. I agree you shouldn't just leave the skimmer cup uncleaned. I just like having a backup plan in place just in case.
