Anyone know what this thing is? Syphoned it out during a water change last night...
Looks like a caterpillar. And not sure if it has one antennae or 2, it was slimy.
1/2" long X 1/16" around (ish)

It was only the size of a large mysis shrimp. So thankfully was able to sleep last night

looks like a catarpillar.
was it alive?

Yes it was alive. It was met with a pair of tweezers mid-body then was placed on a white piece of plastic and was squirming around a little. Just browsed through 63 pages of worms on species-identification.org and was only able to find 2 worms based on drawings that "may" have claws for feet like this (Spiophanes Bombyx and Spiophanes Kroeyeri), but no antennae... thinking I should've kept it in a specimen jar but threw it in the trash

There actually is an aquatic moth....but I thought they were freshwater??? Their larval stage....caterpillar stage....is in water. Google aquatic moth and see what you find.

Sorry no help, but that is one creepy looking creature!!!

No idea. Probably a good thing you got it out of there.
