My alk goes from 7.7 to 6.7 every 12 hours, lights on or lights of doesn't matter. Wondering how normal that is. Corals are all fine.

Isn’t your tank full of mature colonies? I have a ton of frags and mine would change about 0.5 dKh daily, so I’d assume if yours has a lot of mature or big colonies that’s normal. Are you dosing or running CaRx?

Mine dropped from about 7 to 4 in less than a day when I did not notice an empty co2 cylinder on my CaRx. No big deal, some baking soda and a fresh canister and I was back in business in about 10 minutes.

Tank is full of corals, some bigger colonies, mini colonies, and lots of growing frags. Really just started wondering if that exact drop was normal between lights on and off. I only tested once a week or so in the afternoon and noticed recently my normal dosing amount wasn’t keeping up. So I tested every 12 hours for the last few days at 9am and 9pm and got those #s so it’s dropping 2dkh in 24 hours which is the new normal for now. By the way I manually dose still. Thanks for the replies

Howdy,

came here after seeing your pictures in the no water change thread. /scoldon WHERE IS YOUR TANK THREAD? /scoldoff :D

Beautiful mature tank!

I started dosing mostly during the day when I noticed the Alk was bobbing up and down daily. It's the big colonies that do it, and the difference between day and night gets to be quite large. My doser comes on a couple of hours before lights on and goes off right after lights out. I only have hobby grade test kits but best I can tell this has reduced the swing significantly.

In my opinion as long as you are below 8KH most acros don't notice.
