Excessive amounts of micro brittle starfish

Hello everyone thanks for all the responses. The info is kinda what I already Thought. I suspected the excess is from over feeding. My tank is not new it been running about 7 years now. I would totally be interested in selling these but would have no idea how to even do that. I live in Chicago to bad none of you are close enough to pick buy and pick them up. It does take couple weeks for sock to get filled like that. I’m sure I should be cleaning it more often.

Where in Chicago are you located? I grew up there and still have plenty of friends, I'm sure I can arrange something

I thought that most inverts do not create a bio load.
They do not create more bioload (compared with the food you put in - that is the real bioload) they just recirculate 80 % of what they eat and transform the rest into new biomass. They eat the organic stuff your socks catch (clean them) but their biomass grow so much that they will tighten the socks by themselves after a while :p

Sincerely Lasse

Really though, you should help your fellow reefers out and share the wealth. I have two that came in on live rock and it’s been in a tank for 18 months...still only have two.

I would take some if you ship. I like them. I want a dozen to clean my new aquarium.

Agreed if your going to ship I want some please

I used to have brittlestars in my tank like that too . . just everywhere. I liked having them thinking they helped as a CUC. Unfortunately I went through a time where I didn't clean or feed nearly enough and they are gone now. Not a single one. So . . enjoy! Wish I had them still

Sadly I’m not in Chicago and don’t know anyone there. But if you decide to sell them and find a way to ship them to Massachusetts, let me know!

Anyone here want to help him figure out how to go about shipping? Seems like that is the blocker here right?

Actually a few people on here have reached out to me and want to try to help me with the shipping. With that being said all the stars in the pics I took I threw out that night I took them and posted this. By time I woke up in morning it was to late obviously. So next batch will be ready in couple weeks and at that time I will try to get this together. I am thinking about selling them for 2-3 $ each plus shipping and would give extras due to it being hard to count. Anyways I will keep checking back here and my pms so for anyone interested let me know. Thanks guys

Hi guys. So I have a 2 year old tank that I hasn’t been doing well. I’m trying to lower nitrates and phosphates and then my scoly started to shrink. So I was reading last week on here that scolys want to be fed and due to the high nitrates and phosphorus I haven’t fed Reef roids in a few weeks plus I ran out. So I ordered some last week and sat we fed the reef roids. The scoly perked up some so last night we fed more reef roids and this am i noticed piles like 6 piles of these brittle star fish all over the sand bed of my tank and they climbed on my mini anemones which are now closed up. There might be a hundred or so starfish. Should we try and clear them out of the tank???? They are kinda gross! Lol thank you I’m advance for any advice!
