Exinia as a filter?

Xenia? yes it has been known to uptake nitrates and such. BUT you need a good amount of it.

Xenia will definitely help filter the water. How to implement as a form of filtration is a matter of having a dedicated refugium that is large enough to have a good amount of xenia, and some sort of way to keep it from getting into the main display.

I have a 10 gallon setup with mushrooms, zoas, clove polyps, ricordea, and lots of xenia. The only filtration I use on the tank is a HOB AC70 with chemipure elite and a bag of purigen. I never test the water and rarely do water changes. I have zero algae issues and everything grows well. I attribute this to the amount of xenia in the tank.

this is all I got right now I'm hoping to get it to cover the bottom and maybe sides I will keep a close eye on it

I started getting a few sps last year already had the xenia in fact it covered 1/2 of my back wall (36x12) I loved them swaying in the current but after reading so many stories about them dropping heads and getting everywhere I got busy one day & pulled all but a couple off nitrates & phos. were at zero for months within a week or so nitrates went up to 25 nothing else had changed as far as new fish etc lesson learned they are coming back and nitrates are going down (at 10 now) will never do that again altho I wish I had a refugium for them
