Exotic Marine Systems

Thanks for the info on the gutter guard. How did you attach it?

i have the 32" EM box as well on my 72" 210G tank and love it! super quiet and moves a ton of water, super happy with it.
I have had 1 small anthia end up inside the box, but was easily scooped back out. To fix that "issue" you can simply add a small 1" piece of Gutter guard to the inside of the box.
I did this on my old 70G tank for about 3 years and it worked wonders and never caused any flow issues or got clogged

Also someone told me he doesn’t do custom anymore don’t know if that’s true. Originally wanted a modular marine but they aren’t taking orders.
From what I was told MM should be taking orders again soon. DM me if you want details. I am still going with the EMS box as I like the design better and someone from local club has one and it very nice and silent.

Mainly wanted two boxes because wanted to run two of the drains as full siphon

You can still do that from a single box. I run three siphons out of mine.

Why would you need two? EMS will make you just about whatever length you need. Using a single 32” on my 96” tank.

Spoke To Taylor, he said he doesnt want to go long due to shipping problems and reported damage on long overflows.

450. Overflow must do two things - enable adequate surface skimming (mostly a function of skim box length) and handle adequate GPH (mostly a function of bulkhead size). My 32" MM overflow handles surface skimming just fine and is rated to handle up to 3,000 GPH, though I run it much less than that. Dual overflow just adds unnecessary complexity. If you must have a longer internal skim box than @TaylorPilot can easily make, you can butt two up against each other to feed a single external box. He did something like that for me for an upcoming build.

That's interesting! Do you ahve picture of the external box?

Wait, you have 2 internal overflows feeding 1 external box with some extra drains going directly from internal to the sump??? What are the smaller bulkheads at the outer ends of the internal boxes?

I got mine a couple weeks back for a 7ft. long 210. I went with the 32" with 1" drains, he offset the weir for me and gave me a clear overflow box. (I like to see the water level) It took longer to arrive vs. what he initially told me but the end result was worth it, very happy with the purchase. Thinking of getting the 75gal sump kit he offers.

Love the possibility to offset. Looks great!

No, sorry, two different builds. Existing tank uses the MM overflow with a single 32" internal skim box. I just had the MM folks add some extra drains into the external box for me. The end-to-end EMS skim boxes Taylor made for me for a future build. I wanted something 72" long so he made me two 36" that mirror each other. Detailed here …..

@ca1ore That's on a whole different level!

That is going to be one heavy external box. I'm guessing that's just going to sit on its own custom support and NOT hang off the back. I'm going for similar internal and 2 small external boxes offset closer to the sides of the tank for accessability.

Appreciate your reply either way. Thanks.

BTW, still dont know what the smaller bulkheads on the outer edges are. PLMK

Yeah, very much in the 'conceptual' stages still LOL. A few years away at least. Plus me and my finances have to survive COVID first.

The 30L that functions as the external box will certainly need a proper stand. Since the internal skim boxes are 36" long but the two main flow bulkheads in each are towards one end, I figured I would need a way to prevent each skim box from twisting over time. So the smaller bulkheads at the outer ends are mostly there to act as anchors for the boxes. Maybe I'd find some flow-related use for them eventually.

Got it, makes sense.

Good luck with mega build. Stafy safe.
