Hello y’all expecting an upcoming heatwave to raise my tank to around 82-84 which is too high. Currently sitting at 78.8 degrees and wondering what steps I can take to drop the temperature if it does get to high? And recommend ac fans!!
thank you

It may not be as bad or at least Alexa is not telling me every five minutes like she did over the weekend. If you don't have a chiller plumbed in, you can try to find one on Offer Up. If you are on a budget. Home Depot box fan and hang it over the top, or a couple clip on fans. The evaporation should get you a couple degrees. At least it is cooler at night unlike a couple weeks ago. Also I keep a few liter water bottles in the freezer and drop one in the sump every half hour. Just pour a bit out before you freeze them for expansion.

Is it a good idea to have a couple small 16oz bottles to drop In the tank filled with ice for emergency scenarios?

It would take more than a couple. If you have a sump the liter are good, if you have an AIO you may only fit the smaller bottles. The efficiency of frozen is actually not as good as you would expect. So you need several and time to have them refreeze. Also there is a lot of other variables, like size of tank etc. A frozen liter water bottle in a 75 gallon vs a 20g is totally different. It may only cool a .2-3 deg on a bigger system.

You could slowly lower your temperature to 76-77 just to have a larger buffer? I keep ice packs in the freezer for such events although we rarely experience it here the UK! ;)

Consider picking up a cheap fan as well and place it such as it breaks the surface of the water causing heat exchange that way!

Prepare to swich off your lights, skimmer and any other unnecessary equipment that might generate heat.

Fans blowing over the top of display or sump will be the most cost effective. Downside, it does increase evaporation.
Evaporation can quite easily be accounted for with additional topping up! :) The additional topping up of RODI water can help too by topping up with cold water.

Is there a certain way for me to drop the ice pack in the tank? I have a 30 gallon so I’m sure it Will help
