Expected life of pH probes?

I purchased a reefkeeper lite about a year ago with their pH probe. Yesterday, I decided to re-calibrate the probe to ensure it was still accurate, though it appeared to be.

When I would try to calibrate it and then use it, the readings were way off. Placing it in the 10.01 calibration fluid it would read around 5 after I had gone thru the calibration process successfully. I called support and they said 1 year was about the life expectancy of a pH probe and it sounded like mine was bad.

Thoughts?

I'm also torn now over whether I buy a new pH probe for my Reefkeeper lite or do I go ahead and make the switch to Neptune's Apex and buy the package with a pH probe??? I just don't like the Reefkeeper due to the difficulty in programming and poor documentation and am hoping the Apex is better (from what I've been hearing).

There is definatly a serious learning curve with the apex. But I am pretty sure they fixed that with their new software.

My PH probe has been going strong for about 2 years with my apex.

I check my PH probe every 3 month's. At work I do calibration on PH and level probes on food processing equipment once a week.
