Looking to hear some experience with keeping anemone with coral. I am considering adding a neme to my reef tank. Love the looks, but get looking for real world situations. I don't want my corals zapped!

i have a bta that perched directly on-top of a monti cap that i have this one time....i had to remove some of the dead spots on him (almost half the piece) but he did recover

i also have a carpet nem in my larger tank that hasn't caused me any problems since i got em....

honestly i think its a hit n miss type of situation...right now my bta hasn't moved because he has been regularly fed but that can change at a moments notice with these guys

my carpet is still in the same spot

both are hosting clowns

So would you say a carpet is a safer option? Any fish lost to the nemes?

now fish are a different story

my carpet ate.....3 green chromis, 1 tomatoe clown, 1 serpent star ....all within a months time

right now all thats in there with him fish wise are 2 clarkii's (ill upload the pix)

again its a gamble with these guys

personally i love them, i find them super interesting ....the BTA ive had for about a year (he was about the size of a dime when i got em) and the carpet only for about 6months (Petco had him on sale for about $30 so i couldn't resist ) he's about a good 6'' now

When an anemone walks, corals get wounded or die!

I was fairly lucky. It first walked across the entire tank when first put in, but then stayed in one spot after that.

You don't place an anemone.....it finds its own happy place.

i totally agree with that....also a secondary reason i will not buy high end corals

Our prior reef had 2 green bta never left their rock n sold them for a rainbow bta that found it's spot n never moved again. This reef has a rainbow bta that's moved about 6-8 inches on its rock n seems to be very happy n settled in. Just keep our corals away from it n it's tentacles now and everyone is fine. I also would say we're lucky with nems I've seemed to place them in spots they seem to like to latch the foot into n be happy.

My local petco has a sebae. Any thoughts on those? I hate to ask so many questions, but all the people I know are mainly coral guys around here

I know the condy doesn't host. I have read the sebae will.

BTA with coral for 6 months, no issues. And this BTA definitely liked to wander every night until he was sufficiently light-acclimated, so there were plenty of opportunities for him to mess with the coral. I do keep mine well fed, maybe that is a factor. Also, my coral is not particularly dense (yet).

I have a maroon clown which have a reputation for being hard to host. Indeed, he would not host to my carpet nem. He did host immediately to my BTA however.
